Emeritus/Retiree Update – 1/19/07

 Dartmouth Fall Meeting:

Thanks to John Gratiot and the Dartmouth facilities team lead by Linda Hathorn for arranging a great meeting. Over 225 people attended with 40 business partners providing displays. The education programs were stimulating and the tours of new Dartmouth facilities were well attended.

This one-day meeting was an experiment to see how a one-day format would work. The survey results speak well for the one-day format as an alternative to our traditional two-day meetings. The board of directors has been discussing alternative strategies for making the meetings more interesting and accessible for some time. The new format may be a useful alternative for host committees who cannot afford or who do not have the space and amenities to host the two-day meetings, especially in the fall when there are no student break periods.

 Keene Spring Meeting

Frank Mazzola and staff will host the NNECERAPPA Spring 2007 Conference at Keene State College on Thursday & Friday, March 15 & 16, 2007.  The theme of "Leadership From Within" captions many of the programs that will provide insight into how Keene is developing its facilities people. The program will include educational workshop sessions on sustainable grounds operations, organizational leadership, and emergency planning. Lander Medlin, APPA’s Executive Vice President will be the guest speaker.

The Keene campus has seen an exceptional growth in new facilities since our last meeting.  Register for the meeting and enjoy the campus tours featuring KSC’s new Science Center, Media Arts Center, and Residence Halls. In addition there will be a Business Partner exhibit area with over 60 vendor booths.

  Future Chapter Meetings

We are looking forward to seeing some of us at the Keene meeting. If that is not an option for you, keep in mind that the schedule includes the following future meetings:

Fall 2007 – Colby College

Spring 2008 – Saint Michael’s College

Fall 2008 – Bates College

NNECERAPPA has started planning the 2009 ERAPPA Regional Meeting and has selected Portland as the site of the meeting.  The Holiday Inn – By the Bay will the Conference Hotel.  John Gratiot has appointed Dan Gearan of Saint Joseph’s College and Gordon Cheesman of Colby College are Co-Chairs of the Portland 2009 Host Committee.   If you are interested in being part of the Host Committee contact Dan or Gordon.  The committee will start actively planning the meeting soon. 2009 is not that far away!

Staying in Touch.

Please welcome a new member to our group; Peter Taylor, formerly the Director of Facilities at Timberlane Regional School District, Plaistow, NH. Peter’s address is included in this e-mail. Welcome aboard Peter.

Where in the world is?

I think it would be interesting to share our activities with the chapter members. The favorite comment is “I am so busy in retirement, how did I have time to work”. Our colleagues are interested in hearing from us. So, if you wish, please send me news notes about what you have been doing this past year and I will include them in the Chapter Newsletter. Many thanks in advance.

All the best in the New Year!
